Use Your Face as Your nol Card – RTA Announced
Roads and Transport Authority(RTA) of Dubai is known for its technologically driven approach towards transport system. In addition to their existing smart transportation, they have introduced another amazing feature to pay for fares in public transportation.
At the Gitex Global event held in Dubai from 16 to 20 October 2023, RTA announced some updates to further enhance the payment system.
With the help of Artificial Intelligence, they have come up with a “Facial Recognition System”, that allows travelers to pay for Metro, Buses, Taxis, Marine Transport, and Trams using smart gates.
These smart gates capture your face via a 3D camera and match it with registered data of your face. Once the face matches, the fare amount will be deducted from your digital nol wallet.
In this process, you don’t have to use your nol card or any credit card. Make sure that you have enough balance in your Digital nol Card.
When will be Smart Gates Installed
Salahaldeen AlMarzooqi, the director of Automated Collection Systems at RTA, announced that the smart gates would be introduced next year. “The technology will initially be trialed at public transport stations with fewer passengers, and once the Proof of Concept is successful, it will be implemented across all our stations.”
